Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta

This website is an on-line resource for people who are interested in preschooling through the medium of Irish. Amongst other things , you can locate a Naíonra,look at the resources available to buy as well as useful articles/information.

What is a Naíonra?

A Naíonra is a playgroup for children who come together daily (usually for 2-3.5 hours) in a pleasant, cheerful and safe environment, under the guidance and supervision of a Naíonra Leader. It is run solely through the medium of Irish. The staff structures the environment to ensure that all facets of the child's holistic development are catered for, while giving the child the opportunity to acquire Irish naturally through the medium of play, which is this particular age group's chief method of learning.

Our organisation

Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta is an all-Ireland voluntary organisation which supports the promotion of education and care services in Irish for children from birth. It was founded in 2003 as the successor to An Comhchoiste Réamhscolaíochta Teoranta. Foras na Gaeilge and the Office of the Minister for Children, Department of Health and Children provide grant aid to Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta. Not only do we offer Web resources, but also strong community support such as training courses and advice services.

This site features an easy to use find a naíonra facility, which provides comprehensive contact details for all naíonraí administered by FNT. Please note that FNT does not operate in official Gaeltacht areas (those naíonraí are administered by Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta Teoranta) or in the six counties.

Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta welcomes enquiries about setting up new naíonraí. Information on how to start a naíonra is available on this site.

Please note that FNT does not operate in official Gaeltacht areas (those naíonraí are administered by Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta Teoranta) or in the six counties.

Support services & resources

Training courses

Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta provides an intensive training course and FETAC Childcare Levels 5 and 6 courses. FNT is a FETAC recognised training centre. More detailed information about our training courses is available.

Support materials for sale

Forbairt Naíonraí Teoranta sell a range of books, compact discs and other items, which are indispensible in the Naíonra - or indeed in any home in which children are being brought up with Irish! More detailed information about support materials sold by FNT is available.

This site features a section of basic lessons and tips in Irish for beginners - parents and children alike. These pages are designed to complement our book Bun-Ghaeilge do Thuismitheoirí.
